New Year’s Revolutions

December 27, 2010

I have never made New Year’s resolutions, probably because I make and reaffirm my life choices whenever needed, generally when I wander off the path and feel lost which happens often enough that I have a New Year monthly. I like most other holidays, but I don’t really get the New Year thing… like if you were going to make changes why didn’t you already? Make a change! Create an inner revolution! Even in July!

Okay, that’s the grump in me talking. The rest of me perfectly understands the power of a new calendar, a new year, a new start and how good that can feel. I tend to find that lovely feeling in the same way that Anne of Green Gables said, “Marilla, isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?”

I decided, instead of coming here to talk about my New Year’s resolutions and what a revolution I’m about to have, I’d post a few inspirational quotes I love, and then open this up to you and the quotes, poems, or songs that inspire you to make positive changes in your life. Please share—there’s nothing quite like a good quote.

“Begin to live your life according to your aspirations

and step towards your chosen goal.

Play on the instrument of the heart even if it be broken.”

“Let the beauty you love be what you do.

There are a thousand ways to kneel and kiss the ground.”

“All life is an experiment.

The more experiments you make the better.”

—Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Make the most of yourself,

for that is all there is of you.”

—Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Misery is easy.

It’s happiness you have to work at.”

—from the movie Ondine

“Life shrinks or expands
in proportion to one’s courage.”

—Anais Nin

“With God all things are possible.”

—Gospel of Matthew 19:26
