About

The Rock Pool is a project led by a group of young women with strong or changing beliefs that shape and colour the way they live,  unique perspectives, and a determination to learn and change, writing about the things that gave them pause for thought. They are scattered across the globe glob, are of wildly varying heights, speak about a dozen languages between them, share a love of chocolate food and good books, and are constantly on a mission to collect kindred spirits.

Our Philosophy

At the Rock Pool, we value authenticity. That is why, instead of changing our vocabulary, we present you with a lexicon. Even though we know our opinions and beliefs are not necessarily the opinions and beliefs of our readers (nor, indeed, of our fellow writers), we want to take ownership of how we are seen and understood. We want you to understand us in our own ‘language’, not in the ways we’ve been labelled by people who hardly know their own minds.

That’s what every writer on this blog is here for. We write or draw or take pictures of the things that concern or interest us personally, and those things are different for each of us. When we bring them here, we get a chance to glimpse someone else’s world. And the world being the way it is, it’s more important than it’s ever been that we try to understand our fellows.

Designations

Every few months (or thereabouts!), the lovely ladies of the Rock Pool will post around a common topic or theme, with their own individual perspectives and experiences. We’d love to hear everyone else’s thoughts about them too, and hope you’ll share them with us in the comments.

We’ve always got room for another writer or two here, so if your perspective or faith isn’t represented here, we want to hear from you. If you are a girly (of any age) with a little time, strong beliefs and fresh views, a sense of optimism and humour, and think you’ll enjoy writing with us, a great way of getting our attention is to be active in the comments. (Update: I don’t know if there’s any such thing as ‘hitting capacity’, but we might be close! But dear kindred spirits, WE STILL WANT YOU. For now, please keep reading and leaving comments. Because our lives are changing, not everyone can stay as long as they want to, and there are times when we might be looking for new faces.)
